Training Foundation

Puppies don't fail — inconsistent schedules do. This system helps you build a routine that fits YOUR real life. Track what's happening. Adjust as needed.

💧

Daytime Hydration

Provide consistent access to water — but with structure.

  • Offer water after waking, eating, and play
  • Allow drinking, then remove after a few minutes
  • Avoid unlimited, constant sipping throughout the day

✨ Controlled hydration = predictable potty timing

🌙

Evening Routine

Set your puppy up for success overnight.

  • Remove water 2–3 hours before bedtime
  • Take out right before crating
  • Keep evenings calm and low stimulation

✨ This helps prevent overnight accidents

🧠

Bladder Development

Your puppy is still learning control.

  • Under 4 months = very limited control
  • Age in months ≈ hours they can hold it
  • Accidents are normal — but patterns matter

✨ Structure builds control over time

Scheduled Potty Breaks

Puppies typically need to go shortly after drinking.

  • Take your puppy out 10–20 minutes after water
  • Always go after meals and play
  • Every 1–2 hours depending on age

✨ Routine reduces accidents

CocoLove Training Rules

  • ⏱️
Timing is Everything. Take your puppy out immediately after waking, 5–15 min after eating, after every play session, and every 1–2 hours. Waiting creates accidents. Timing prevents them.
  • 🏠
Crate = Structure, Not Punishment. The crate helps your puppy learn bladder control, build routine, and stay safe when unsupervised. A properly used crate accelerates training.
  • 👁️
Supervision or Structure — No In Between. Your puppy should either be actively supervised OR in a crate/contained space. Too much freedom too early = confusion.
  • ⚠️
Accidents are Information. Every accident tells you timing was off, supervision was missed, or routine needs adjusting. Don't punish — adjust.
  • 😌
Calm Energy Wins. Excitement and chaos lead to missed cues. Stay calm, clear, and intentional. Your puppy doesn't need more time — they need more consistency.
Cheat Sheet

When to take your puppy out 🐾

After Waking
Immediately

The second they open their eyes — outside. No exceptions.

After Eating
5–20 minutes

Fast digestion = don't wait. Get outside right after the bowl is empty.

After Playing
Within minutes

Excitement triggers the urge. Playtime always ends with a potty trip.

Every 1–2 hrs
Set alarms

If you wait… you're already late. Proactive trips = fewer accidents.

After Napping
Right after

Rest resets their bladder. Outside before anything else.

Before Bedtime
Last thing

Final trip right before crate. Everyone sleeps better.

👀 Watch for These Signs — Catch it Early

🐽 Sniffing the ground
🔄 Circling
🚶 Walking away suddenly
😩 Whining or pacing
🛑 Squatting
😯 Sudden stillness

Catch it early = prevent the accident. Better timing = faster results.

Most Common Mistakes

  • ❌ Waiting too long between breaks
  • ❌ Too much freedom too soon
  • ❌ Inconsistent schedule day to day
  • ❌ Not tracking patterns
  • ❌ Punishing accidents instead of adjusting

"You don't need a better puppy... you need a better system."

Look How Far
You've Come! 🎉

You didn't just train your puppy — you built consistency, trust, and a stronger bond. That's everything.

Thank you 🤍

Thank you for trusting me to be a part of your puppy's journey. As a breeder, I've seen firsthand how much early structure shapes a dog's behavior long-term. I didn't want families leaving with just a puppy — I wanted them to leave with confidence, clarity, and a plan that actually works.

This reset is the same approach I use in my program — simple, consistent, and built around real life. You're not just training your puppy… you're building trust, communication, and a lifelong bond.
